On January 13, 1977 JAL Cargo flight 8054 took off from Anchorage, Alaska. The Captain was a US National, while the other two pilots were Japanese. It was likely obvious to the co-pilots that the captain was under the influence of alcohol. The taxi company that drove him to the airport called JAL and informed them they believed the captain was drunk. The captain taxied past a point he should have stopped, and ended up on the wrong runway. When the tower told him he was on the wrong runway, he contradicted them.
